A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR ABOUT COVID-19
March 19, 2020
Grace and peace to you from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ.
I am writing to update you on where we stand with the Coronavirus situation. In keeping with the federal government’s request that we limit all gatherings to ten or fewer, Judson will not be having an “in-person” worship service for the next three weeks. We will continue to livestream the service on our website (www.ChurchLansing.com/livestream) and hopefully make it available for those who do not have a high-speed internet connection to call in with their telephone and hear the service as it happens. (For information on how to dial in, call the church office during normal hours and we'll get you the code you need.) We are currently working on ways to improve the livestream experience.
These three weeks will end on April 5 (Palm Sunday), after which we will revisit whether to reconvene in person or continue to meet virtually for a while longer. This will all depend, of course, on how the situation has developed and what we’re hearing from our leaders. If we are able to gather on Easter Sunday, we will not be having a breakfast or children’s egg hunt—just a service.
If we are not able to gather on Easter Sunday (which seems to be a very real possibility), we will postpone our celebration of the Resurrection until we are all able to gather in person once again. In that case, we will go all out: breakfast, egg hunt, lilies, maybe Sean Douglas will dress like the Easter Bunny. . . (I haven’t asked him about that, but let’s face it—he’ll dress like an elephant at the drop of a hat, so a bunny is probably a no-brainer). We will keep you informed!
On April 5, we will not be trying to observe the Lord’s Supper in any sense. If this social-distancing situation persist beyond the next couple communion Sundays, we will look at some creative ways to make that happen. But for now, we will just wait. And please, as far as you are able, continue to support the church financially. You can send your gift in through the USPS (Judson Baptist Church 531 Glendale Ave. Lansing, MI 48910) or set up a one-time or recurring gift online with just a few clicks (www.ChurchLansing.com/giving or using our app).
Finally, next Wednesday, March 25, at 7:00 PM I will be leading an interactive online Bible Study/prayer meeting. You can participate via your computer (again, just visit our website, www.ChurchLansing.com/livestream) using video or just audio, or you can dial in with your phone (again, for information on how to dial in, call the church office during normal hours and we'll get you the code you need).
I am greatly looking forward to the next time we gather together as the Body of Christ, but remember that we are the church wherever we are and we should continue to act as such. Let’s be encouraging each other and checking on each other as well as loving and serving our neighbors, as far as we are able. The church office is open; if you are in need of help during this time, feel free to call us at 882-5961 (or my cell at is 575-8508).
I love you and Jesus loves you!
Soli Deo Gloria,
